Next time an art world outsider asks you, by way of small talk, who the hot young curators of the day are, all you need to do is recite this list. That’s right, it’s the biannual Independent Vision Curatorial Award, given out by Independent Curators International (ICI) to honor the work of up-and-coming curators. This year’s 15 nominees hail from your usual art capitals like Paris, New York, and London, as well as Guatemala, Costa Rica, Slovenia, and Senegal. They are:

— Researcher and independent curator Eva Barois De Caevel
Proyectos Ultravioleta co-founder and co-director Stefan Benchoam
— Critic and independent curator Bao Dong
— The Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris‘s curator Anne Dressen
— Associate artistic director and curator at TEOR/éTica Inti Guerrero
— Independent curator Agung Hujatnikajennong
— Assistant curator at the Studio Museum in Harlem Naima Keith
— The Museum of Modern Art‘s associate curator of media and performance art Thomas Lax
— Independent curator Tevž Logar
— Independent author and curator Emile Maurice
Pérez Art Museum Miami associate curator Diana Nawi
— Independent curator Mary Pansanga
— Independent curator and La Ene director Marina Reyes Franco
— Independent curator Gaia Tedone
— Independent curator Natalia Valencia

This year’s winner will be picked by Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation chief curator and deputy director Nancy Spector; the nominating committee included Whitechapel Gallery director Iwona Blazwick, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston senior curator Valerie Cassel Oliver, and Ullens Center for Contemporary Art director Philip Tinari. A winner will be crowned sometime between now and November 17, when he or she will formally receive the award during ICI’s annual gala and benefit auction at New York City’s Cunard Building.

The ICI Independent Vision Curatorial Award, which is supported by the the Gerrit Lansing Education Fund, launched in 2010. Its previous edition, in 2012, resulted in a tie, with Nav Haq and Jay Sanders getting the prize. Winners receive a $3,000 stipend to put toward a new curatorial endeavor.
