A Busy Steve McQueen Withdraws from the Hugo Boss Prize Shortlist

Steve McQueen, whose film 12 Years a Slave was awarded the Oscar for best picture last night, has decided to remove himself from consideration for the 2014 Hugo Boss Prize. Fair enough, he’s had a lot on his plate recently. Martine d’Anglejan-Chatillon, the director of his London gallery Thomas Dane, told The Art Newspaper the artist was in Los Angeles to promote this latest movie and didn’t have anything further to add about the decision. Camille Henrot, Paul Chan, Sheela Gowda, Hassan Kahn, and Charline von Hayl are still in the running for the $100,000 prize.
