The Alserkal Avenue creative industrial space in the neighborhood of Al Quoz Dubai is already home to 10 art galleries, 10 cultural organizations and one private museum but it will soon undergo a significant expansion. Founded by the Alserkal family, this arts and cultural district has forthcoming plans to physically double in size.

Dubai has quickly claimed its role as arbiter of the Middle Eastern art scene and within this frame, Alserkal Avenue has emerged as a microcosmic cultural hub. The space is made up of Contemporary art galleries and cultural spaces camouflaged within warehouses. Each gallery and cultural milieu takes on a unique identity in its theme, artist representation and aesthetic energy.

Dubai’s creative community has been quick to baptize the space as its new haven and an artistic oasis.

In 2012, Alserkal announced a space expansion to meet the growth of its community and to match its rising influence in the region’s art scene. In the coming months, its current facilities will greet around 40 new creative entities, opening doors to a more eclectic range of artwork and artists. In this effort, gallery spaces and creative industries will converge. The impressive A4 Space within Alserkal already boasts a café and a 70-person film screening room but an A5 Concept Store will be among the initiatives to launch in Fall 2015.

The new arrangement will also include studios, residency programs, a black box theater, more places to dine and drink, and an outdoor facility for concerts and panels.

This March, as part of Dubai’s Art Week, Alserkal will present a preview of its imminent expansion and invite guests to preview the new spaces which will be ready this coming fall.

Alserkal Avenue will also host a Galleries Night on Monday, March 16. More than 20 galleries and cultural spaces will open from 6-9 PM to unveil their new contemporary art exhibitions. To learn more about Alserkal Avenue and its innovative initiatives, visit its website.
