In what may go down as one of New York Fashion Week 2014’s most elegant artist-designer collaborations, Dustin Yellin has teamed up with fashion designer Misha Nonoo to create abstract prints that will march down the runway as part of the spring 2015 collection of her eponymous label. As the wife of Paddle8 founder Alexander Gilkes, Nonoo is no stranger to the art world, though this is her first time collaborating directly with an artist for her line. Nonoo joined Yellin at Pioneer Works, his Red Hook studio and contemporary art complex, to conceptualize the designs, which evoke the artist’s intricate collage-and-glass works.
Nonoo spoke to The Cut about her experience working with Yellin: “I was immediately drawn to his work and unique perspective as well as the femininity represented in his three-dimensional glass collage series. Working within another artistic medium has been a deeply academic study and formidable journey that encouraged me to articulate my own work precisely.”
Nonoo has released two of the delicate and dreamy prints, but you’ll have to wait until her Fashion Week presentation to see the rest. Judging by the first two, the series will have us wanting to bypass fall and go straight to floral season.
