Farmers Enlist a Dozen Sheep to Storm the Louvre
Farmers assisted by a dozen sheep held a protest at the Louvre on Friday, the Telegraph reports. The ovine activists, whose presence baffled tourists and museum employees alike, were there on behalf of France’s Farmers’ Federation.
The farmers fear reforms to the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy will promote further industrialization, marginalizing more traditional agriculture. Carrying signs calling the proposed changes a “PAC’astrophe,” the farmers and their sheep (plus one sheepdog, to keep them in line) made their grievances known.
“We don’t belong to a museum,” said a Federation spokesperson. “Our place is in the countryside, where we can revitalize the countryside, create jobs and develop quality produce; that’s why we came here today.”
