Frieze Art Fair has announced the appointment of Abby Bangser as artistic director for the Americas and Asia.

The position has been newly created for Bangser, and will see her working alongside Frieze director Victoria Siddall and Joanna Stella-Sawicka, Frieze’s former deputy director recently promoted to the post of artistic director for Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa.

Bangser was the first head of the Serpentine Galleries’s Americas Foundation and has also directed the annual giving programs at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). In addition, Bangser has worked with the Guggenheim Collection in Venice and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Commenting on Bangser’s appointment, Victoria Siddall said “Abby brings fantastic gallery, institutional, and collector relationships to this new role and I am thrilled she is joining our team”.

The new position has led to increased rumours of an Asian edition of the fair, although Frieze has not yet confirmed these.

The announcement comes not long after a number of other changes within the fair. Victoria Siddall is also fairly new to her current role, having taken over from co-founders Matthew Slotover and Amanda Sharp in September of last year.
