Frankfurt-based art dealer and long-serving head of VIP relations for Berlin’s Gallery Weekend, Michael Neff will join Berlin auction house Villa Grisebach, according to the FAZ. Rumors had circulated for several months that the weekend’s tenth anniversary edition two weeks ago would be Neff’s last. According to the paper, he will now move to Berlin to occupy a newly created role of creative director at Villa Grisebach.

Neff is the second high-profile hire by the auction house in recent years. Journalist and author Florian Illies also recently joined Villa Grisebach as a managing director. Adding Neff is but one further step being taken by the house to dramatically expand their expertise and presence in the ever-growing sector of post war and contemporary art. Villa Grisebach will open an additional 500 square meter (5400 square feet) space on Berlin’s FasanenstraĂźe in September, which will be dedicated to art made after 1960.

Michael Neff is the second high-profile Gallery Weekend official to head to the secondary market in the past year. After closing his gallery last August, Martin Klosterfelde joined Phillips as a director of contemporary art.
