Interpol Will Rock the Temple of Dendur for Launch of Met App

To celebrate the launch of their flagship mobile app, simply dubbed “The Met App,” the Metropolitan Museum of Art will host a reception, demo, and concert by the rock band Interpol on September 2. But this won’t just be your average concert—no, the band will be playing at the ancient Egyptian Temple of Dendur, in the museum’s Sackler Wing. They will perform material from their forthcoming album, El Pintor, which drops September 9, as well as, we hope, some old favorites.
The app, which will become available in the Apple store on the same day as the party, is described as a personalized portal to museum events, exhibitions, and artworks that will allow “people anywhere—simply and easily—[to] stay connected with what’s on and what’s new at the Museum on any given day,” according to a press release. What exactly all that will look like remains to be seen. As the New York Times notes, the museum has been very secretive about revealing anything other than the app’s overall purpose.
For now, what we do know is that the app will do something, it will likely raise the bar for museum apps, and there’s going to be an awesome rock concert in an ancient temple to celebrate.
Tickets for the concert and party are unsurprisingly sold out.
