Katy Perry Wants to Become an Art Collector

Move over, Lady Gaga. Looks like another pop icon is ready to sink her teeth into the contemporary art scene. At MOCA‘s 35th Anniversary Gala last Saturday in Los Angeles, singer Katy Perry announced to E! News her plans to “slowly become an art collector.” Apparently, in the wake of her split from John Mayer, she has chosen to mend her heart with art, as Page Six put it.

If you’re wondering who some of her favorite artists are, she elaborated by saying: “What I’m really drawn to is modern contemporary art and pop art, of course… also some key photography. I’ve always loved Cindy Sherman and today I got interested in Lee Friedlander… this is all brand new. I’m really interested in having an art history education.” She must have missed Barack Obama’s estimation of an art history education.

She later tweeted that she spent the weekend admiring works by Pablo Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein, and James Turrell:
