The Chelsea-based outfit Leila Heller Gallery has opened a second New York location at 43 West 57th Street. The six‐floor, 18,000-square-foot gallery space will be among the largest in the city.

In addition to exhibition space, the new location will include a 60-seat theater and auditorium for films, video art installations, speaking engagements, and panel discussions. There will also be a project space that will be dedicated to displaying work from emerging artists and curators, and room for offices and the gallery’s extensive book collection.

Tom Arnold, previously a director at Mary Boone Gallery, will serve in that capacity, with programming focused on modern and contemporary masters. The gallery’s stable of emerging and mid-career artists will be based in Chelsea, but the midtown space will also selectively present their work in order to provide it with historical context.

Inaugurating the new space is “Look at Me: Portraiture from Manet to the Present,” (on view through August), an expansive exhibition that will feature over 200 pieces spanning almost two hundred years from 170 different artists. Curated by collector Beth Rudin DeWoody and Paul Morris, a founding director of the Armory Show, “Look at Me” is also on view at Leila Heller’s original 568 West 25th Street gallery beginning tomorrow.
