The line for Marina Abramović’s new piece 512 Hours at London’s Serpentine Gallery will be to the summer of 2014 as the line for Alexander McQueen’s Costume Institute retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum was to 2011. On June 11, the first day of the durational performance art spectacle, a long line stretched from the front door of the Serpentine Sackler Gallery into Kensington Gardens.

When, finally, it was time for Abramović to begin interacting with her public, she threw open the doors to the gallery herself to welcome them inside—160 at a time. The waiting line to get into 512 Hours—which artnet News speculates will reach 512 hours sometime in early August—has already spawned an official social media hashtag, #SGqueue.
