Los Angeles Editions of Paris Photo and FIAC Shuffle 2015 Schedules

Art collectors were already guaranteed a busy May in 2015, but that month’s calendar is now even more hectic thanks to a scheduling change for the Los Angeles editions of Paris Photo (currently in its second year) and Paris’s contemporary art fair FIAC. As reported by the New York Times, both events will take place beginning May 27 next year, rather than earlier in the season.

Given how crowded the art fair calendar has become, it makes sense for the two fairs to sync their schedules. As FIAC Los Angeles director Jill Silverman van Coenegrachts said to the Times, “what we’re looking at is one week a year to bring the world to LA—the art world and people interested in architecture and design.” The two fairs share an owner in Reed Exhibitions.

Next May will also see the annual New York art auctions and the fourth edition of Frieze New York. (At least eight fairs will run concurrently with Frieze this year.) Complicating matters further, the 2015 Venice Biennale will open for previews on May 6 in 2015. Frieze has yet to announce whether or not it will adjust its dates to avoid conflict with the Italian exhibition.

Despite the stiff competition, the two Paris imports had little choice in the matter, as the May dates were the only ones available at the Los Angeles Convention Center, the event’s venue. FIAC Los Angeles expects to draw approximately 130 exhibitors in what will be its first iteration, while this year’s Paris Photo Los Angeles has about 80.
