Los Angeles’s Kohn Gallery Moving to New Space in Hollywood
Los Angeles’s Kohn Gallery is moving to Highland Avenue in Hollywood. The new, 12,000-square-foot space, which boasts 22-foot high ceilings to better display large-scale works and exhibitions, opens May 3, 2014.
Owner Michael Kohn has collaborated with Los Angeles-based architect Lester Tobias on the building’s design. Massive glass windows and skylights will flood the space with natural light. Tobias, who previously was responsible for Kohn’s former Santa Monica space, worked with Frank Gehry before establishing his own firm, Tobias Architecture.
In addition to traditional exhibition space, the gallery features state of the art media rooms, well-suited for presenting film, videos, and sound installations, and a room for special projects.
Kohn, who represents the estates of California artists such as Bruce Conner, Wallace Berman and Charles Brittin, hopes to expand his stable of both emerging and established artists to take full advantage of the improved resources of the gallery’s new, expanded home.
