Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego Picks Annabelle Selldorf to Design La Jolla Expansion
Annabelle Selldorf has been selected as the architect for the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego‘s upcoming expansion of its La Jolla building. The US$50 million project will triple the 73-year old museum’s available exhibition space and add room for planned educational programming.
Based in New York, Selldorf Architects were chosen from among eight American firms invited to submit expansion proposals for consideration. It will be the first West Coast commission and first contemporary art museum for Selldorf, who is known for designing New York’s Neue Galerie and branches of the David Zwirner, Hauser and Wirth, and Acquavella galleries. The firm expects to have an initial design concept completed by the fall, although construction is not expected to begin for at least two years.
