Pablo Picasso Movie to Star Antonio Banderas and Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow and Pablo Picasso's Dora Maar Seated (1937).

Antonio Banderas will take the lead role in an upcoming Pablo Picasso biopic, with Gwyneth Paltrow reportedly in talks to portray the artist’s muse/mistress, French artist Dora Maar, reports Fox News Latino.

Spanish director Carlos Saura will take the helm for 33 días, which recounts the creation of the painting Guernica (1937). The movie was first announced several years ago, but never went into production because the studio that owned the rights filed for bankruptcy.

Banderas, for his part, didn’t mind the delay, telling Fox News that at age 54, “I am nearly at the age [Picasso] was when those events happened, in 1937, when he was 55 or 56.”

The Spanish actor, born in Picasso’s native Malaga, seems a logical choice for the role, but what about Paltrow? According to Banderas, the actress and lifestyle blogger is “absolutely in love with Spain and speaks Spanish and French perfectly.”

The film is scheduled to begin shooting later this year, with a targeted 2015 release.
