Van Gogh-Inspired Dresses at Viktor & Rolf Paris Show

Despite the chilly temperatures, the spirit of a sunny day in the spring countryside was alive at Viktor & Rolf’s Spring 2015 haute couture show in Paris. Inspired by the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh, the “Van Gogh Girls” collection paid homage to the Dutch design duo’s roots, featuring exaggerated A-line babydoll dresses with batik-dyed floral prints.
Models sported massive straw headpieces, and in some cases, floral embellishments that appeared to be sprouting off the dresses. On one particularly dramatic piece, dark floral outlines extend out of the skirt into an open lace that joined the horizontal lengths of straw emanating from the hat.

“The essence of the countryside is translated into unexpected, sculptural looks that combine abstract graphic volumes with organic elements,” the designers told Dezeen.
Thanks to art collector Han Nefkens, a longtime patron of the design team, the pieces will return to their rightful home in the Netherlands. Nefkens acquired three of the outfits from the show for the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.

Nefkens has been collaborating with Viktor & Rolf for years. Nefkens has acquired pieces from the design team in the past and commissioned others that have then been donated or given as a long-term loan to the museum as part of the Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge project.
