London’s Royal Academy of Arts has appointed White Cube’s director of exhibitions Tim Marlow as their first ever director of artistic programs, the Guardian reported. A fixture of the British art scene for almost two decades, Marlow is also a prolific broadcaster and critic for the BBC and Sky Arts. The job, he said, is “expansive, demanding, challenging … and on another level you think ‘blimey’.” While  he’s aware of the RA’s need to diversify audiences, he has already made a few points clear: “there will be no baby and bathwater nonsense. I’m not going to chase youth at the expense of engaged audiences.”
