An Historic French Villa Where Grace Kelly Used to Vacation Is Up for Grabs
Previously listed for $12 million, Les Moulins du Villars has reemerged on the market with a discount.
A historic palazzo an hour’s drive from Nice is back on the market—and it brings with it the aura of former resident Grace Kelly, the late princess of Monaco. The French estate Les Moulins du Villars, located in Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur, once served as the starlet’s vacation home.
Lustfully situated on the French Riviera, the property previously had a price tag of $12.5 million in August 2023. Despite its glamorous history, the listing failed to inspire any takers. Frank Knight has now relisted the villa for €7.95 million (roughly $8.5 million).
The home was first built in the 14th century as an olive oil and flour mill. It underwent significant transformations, including a renovation by Count Jean Fernand Joseph Gouin de Roumilly in the 1970s, before Kelly made it her getaway of choice.
The property is perched 470 meters above ground in a secluded location. It was entirely rebuilt more than a decade ago, in 2012. The entire structure comprises the natural rocks of the region, giving it a raw, rustic mineral look. The main villa has four floors with seven bedrooms.
Enclosed within the medieval surroundings are modern state-of-the-art amenities: an elevator, a Bollywood-style television room, a tennis court that doubles as a helipad or soccer pitch, a wine cellar, and a fitness studio. The onsite Villars Spring promises a self-sufficient water supply that’s thousands of years old. Local folklore claims the water has healing properties.
Still, if the water fails to cure your ailments, the citrus and olive trees, two vegetable gardens, and a Koi pond might rejuvenate your state of being. At least they did for a Hollywood princess.
