A Viral Instagram Account Is Inserting Actor Timothée Chalamet Into Historical Paintings—and the Results Are Hilariously Convincing

The actor's face fits surprisingly well in masterpieces by Courbet, Caravaggio, and others.

With his delicate features, heavy-lidded brown eyes, and lazy half-smile, the 22-year-old indie film darling Timothée Chalamet’s face is made for the big screen. But, as a  newly viral Instagram account @chalametinart points out, “Timothée Chalamet has been an inspiration to artists as far back as da Vinci.”

Earlier this month, the anonymous account began photoshopping Chalamet’s face onto historical paintings. While clutching a cornucopia of ripe produce, his gaze smolders in Caravaggio’s Boy With a Basket of Fruit (c.1593), for instance. In another, he nails the thousand-yard stare in John Singer Sargant’s portrait of Lady Agnew of Lochnaw.

But this isn’t even the first time that Chalamet-stans have seen their star appear in artistic masterpieces. Chalamet’s Academy Award-nominated role in Call Me By Your Name led to the creation of the Instagram account Call Me By Monet (@CMBYNMonet), which placed the actor and his co-star Armie Hammer into the sun-dappled Impressionist landscapes of Claude Monet.
