In Pictures: See the Images That Captured the Highs and Lows of 2021, From the Storming of the U.S. Capitol to Crypto-Art Mania

It's been quite a year.

The past year has been one for the history books. But the moments of almost unfathomable darkness—the ongoing pandemic and hundreds of thousands of lives lost, the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, climate catastrophes, and police violence to name just a few—were punctuated by levity, hope, resilience, innovation, and of course, art. Here are some of the images that defined 2021.
