Berlin’s art scene is in the midst of a kind of transition. No longer the grimy cool kid upstart, the city’s local art fair has grown up and its gallerists have banded together in new alliances, while artists are facing encroaching signs of gentrification. It remains to be seen where this new direction is headed, but one thing is for certain: there’s more art to see than ever.

Right now, you can catch a variety of world-class shows, starting with Barbara Kruger’s latest imposing installation at Sprüth Magers. In her new site-specific work, the artist continues her practice of succinctly addressing the failures of capitalism in the form of screaming headlines you won’t soon forget or be able to tune out. Then, make sure to go to Galerie Thomas Schulte for their show “The Notion of Mutable Space,” a re-examination of Gordon Matta-Clark and his work as an architect featuring a number of his design sketches, photographs, and unrealized projects. For some intriguing new painting, visit Galerie Michael Haas to see the work of Tanja Nittka, who creates richly atmospheric renderings of interiors that are at once sensual and suffocating.
