New York artist Duke Riley has entranced audiences this spring with his performance Fly By Night, in which hundreds of homing pigeons with LED lights attached to their legs light up the sky over the Brooklyn Navy Yard. More than 40,000 people are on the waiting list for the performance, which has been sold out since it opened on May 7.
Creative Time has now extended the event’s run, with the support of artnet, through June 19, adding three additional performances.
“Creative Time is committed to helping artists realize their dreams, and Duke’s dream was for Fly By Night to be his gift to New York,” said Katie Hollander, executive director of Creative Time. “We are grateful for the opportunity for more New Yorkers to experience its magic.”
“I went to see the performance and absolutely loved it,” said Jacob Pabst, artnet CEO. “Being longtime fans and supporters of Creative Time, we wanted to help as many people experience this innovative project as possible. With Creative Time’s rich tradition of bringing meaningful cultural experiences to New Yorkers, including the annual Tribute in Light at Ground Zero and Kara Walker’s Marvelous Sugar Baby in 2014, we are once again honored to participate in their groundbreaking programming.”
If you are unable to reserve a ticket, via Creative Time’s website, you can join the wait list. If you sign up to become a member of Creative Time, you’ll get two tickets to one of the final performances.
If you don’t secure a spot but still want to check out the performance, it’s visible from across the river at the East River Park Amphitheater, and at rooftop vineyard Rooftop Reds, also in the Brooklyn Navy Yards.
