VIDEO: The Future of Corporate Collections at SCOPE Basel

Don't miss this panel during Art Basel.

In partnership with SCOPE Basel 2016, artnet is presenting “The Future of Corporate Collections,” a panel discussion that looks inside corporate collections and their importance to the art world.

Taking place on Wednesday, June 15 at 3:00 p.m. in SCOPE’s VIP Lounge at the Swiss fair, the conversation will feature Loa Haagen Pictet, curator of the collection Pictet and chair of the International Association of Corporate Collections of Contemporary Art; Sabrina Kamstra, curator of the art collection of the AMC and chair of the Netherlands Association of Corporate Art Collections; and Jutta Nixdorf, senior specialist of Post-War and contemporary art, Christie’s.

Moderated by artnet director of business development Suzana Diamond, panelists will discuss the history of their collections and their uniquely global perspectives on the art market.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in Basel, SCOPE Art Show bills itself as the “premier showcase for international emerging contemporary art.”

Often little-known to the public, corporate collections had their moment in the sun in 2015 with the publication of Global Corporate Collections, which unveiled the holdings of 100 of the world’s best corporate collections, including Microsoft, AXA (which in 2014 conducted the AXA Art International Collectors Survey), and Deutsche Bank, which boasts an incredible 57,000 works of art in its possession.

For instance, some large corporations may have the resources and abilities to amass museum-quality collections, such as the 400-piece holdings of German financial services company Portigon AG. Following a bailout package, however, the bank nearly deaccessioned the collection in 2015, until the government stepped in to save it by designating key works as nationally significant cultural goods.

“The Future of Corporate Collections” panel discussion will take place Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the SCOPE VIP Lounge, and is free to attend with fair admission.
