Beloved Armory Week satellite fair Independent will host its first iteration in Brussels this year from April 20–23. The hotly-anticipated event will feature over 60 international galleries and art spaces from 30 cities, including boldface names like David Zwirner, Gladstone Gallery, Almine Rech, and Gavin Brown’s Enterprise along with younger galleries like Gavlak and the New York- and Brussels-based Clearing. The fair will take place in the Vanderborght Building, also the one-time home of Dexia Bank’s art collection.

“Independent is no longer solely a New York event,” executive director Laura Mitterrand said in a statement. “[A]nd its first iteration in Brussels will bring to the city the same level of galleries and cultural players that have made it such a reference as an art fair.”

A partial exhibitor list for the upstart fair was released in October, and since then the roster has almost doubled. Notable additions include Gavin Brown, CANADA, and Gavlak Gallery.
