John Baldessari is borrowing from Andy Warhol and offering punters—not 15 minutes—but 15 seconds of fame. For Your Name in Light, which will be launched on September 13, the LA artist is asking anyone willing to send their names. These will be shown on the façade of the Monnaie de Paris, as part of a slew of events which will mark the reopening of the 18th century building at the heart of the French capital.

100,000 people are expected to take part in Baldessari’s tongue-in-cheek illumination. The piece will culminate at the end of October with the opening of the immersive Chocolate Factory project by another LA giant, Paul McCarthy.

Founded in 864 to mint coins, La Monnaie de Paris is France’s oldest institution. It is in the process of being transformed into a cultural and commercial hub, featuring a contemporary art space as well two high-end restaurants courtesy of Michelin star chef Guy Savoy.
