VIDEO: Karl Lagerfeld Discusses the Perks of Online Shopping and His Collaboration with artnet

A few weeks ago we revealed our first-ever fashion auction in collaboration with the legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld, in honor of the launch of his new e-commerce portal, KARL.COM. (See the first video from an exclusive conversation between the designer and artnet CEO Jacob Pabst here.)

His three unique designs for artnet Auctions appeal to three very different characters. “Le Spectre de la Rose” is a glittering, pretty-in-pink leather envelope bag with a strap studded with Swarovski pearls, while the second design, “City Butterfly,” is a bit edgier in metallic black shearling with gunmetal grey hardware. The third bag, “Crescendo,” recalls the 1970s, with a design of three layered squares in graduated shades of purple.

Lagerfeld is known for his at-times outlandish quips—there’s even a book of them. Luckily, he got a bit more candid with artnet in the video below. Hear about the time he won first prize in a French gardening contest (“but I’m not a gardener”), his love for Argentinian tango (“Latin rap”), his sketching habits, and, of course, his beloved four-legged companion, Choupette.
