Las Vegas hasn’t had much success in creating a vibrant arts community, but the new Modern Contemporary Art Museum hopes to succeed where other institutions have struggled and even failed. (The city’s well-known Contemporary Arts Center is currently homeless and the Las Vegas Art Museum closed in 2009.)

The plans for the Modern include building a US$29-million home, hosting traveling exhibitions of 20th- and 21st-century art, and offering educational programming through a Center for Creativity. Like New York’s New Museum, the Modern will be a non-collecting institution. The museum has launched an Indiegogo campaign that aims to raise $100,000 towards construction costs.
