If you’re looking for a distraction from politics, we don’t blame you. The mood might be ominous in the West this week, but perhaps things are looking brighter on the East: West Bund Art and Design kicked off yesterday and ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair opens its doors tomorrow, while at the same time the 11th edition of the Shanghai Biennale unites 92 artists from 40 countries in one of the region’s most comprehensive biennales. But don’t stop there, and turn off the news and head out for some major art museum showcases like “Andy Warhol: Shadows,” which is said to be the largest installation from his landmark series since the 1970s, Felix Gonzalez-Torres’ first solo exhibition in China at the Rockbund Art Museum, and France’s travelling masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou featuring works from 1906 to 1977. Still not distracted? There remains the Shanghai gallery circuit, of course, which is pulling out all the stops for the occasion of all these art fairs. There’s enough to see and do to keep you off of Twitter for days.
