What You Need to Know: Street artist Alec Monopoly’s fame is a global phenomenon. The artist, who blends pop culture imagery with a graffiti sensibility, recently jetted to Dubai for a one-night opening of Eden Gallery’s new Dubai gallery space in the Dubai Mall, the second-largest mall in the world. The energetic event drew over 1,000 attendees and showcased a varied array of Monopoly’s most sought-after series. The evening’s high points included Monopoly live painting a mural inside the mall, across from Red Valentino, as fans looked on.

Why We Like It: The high-octane evening celebrated a sprawling installation of works by Monopoly, alongside those of gallery artists Eduardo Kobra, David Kracov, and Angelo Accardi, among others. Held in Eden Gallery’s dazzling 11,000-square-foot space, the night kicked off with the artist arriving in a car decked out in his iconic logo and dollar bill motif and concluded after his entire “Hermès” painting collection sold out. Other memorable moments included the artist spinning his own DJ set as the crowd cheered him on.

According to the Gallery: Alec spread warm energy and included himself among the fun; he was seen mingling with guests, taking pictures with admirers, and making a number of heartfelt live dedications. Alec Monopoly’s colorful, daring graffiti artworks are known around the world for their fun and thought-provoking cultural commentary and have been collected by world-renowned art collectors and celebrities. In his brand new collection, he includes his vibrant characters: Uncle Pennybags, Scrooge, and Richie Rich, who are featured against a backdrop of the city of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks,” read a statement from Eden Galleryt.
