At the Met, Wolfgang Tillmans’s View of Buildings

THE DAILY PIC: This is a view of one screen from a multi-projector installation by Wolfgang Tillmans, called Book for Architects and now on view at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. As you sit in the darkened gallery, 450 views of structures flash before your eyes; they range from nicely composed building-porn shots to utterly casual views of shacks.
Gone are the days when photos were viewed one-by-one, for their unique charms, or genteelly arranged in a book. The image-barrage is now our standard mode, and Tillmans gives us its ideal version. One advantage, at least for his Met project: The barrage does a much better job of capturing the sense of being alive and moving through our built world.
