The 11th Shanghai Biennale, curated by Delhi’s Raqs Media Collective, has announced the 92 artists to be included in the upcoming edition, “Why Not Ask Again? Arguments, Counter-arguments and Stories,” which is slated to open in November.

In addition to the Raqs-curated main exhibition, the biennial also features seven guest-curated sections, organized by Didem Yazıcı (Istanbul), Ivan Isaev (Moscow), Liu Tian (Hangzhou), Mouna Mekounar (Paris), Sabih Ahmed (Delhi), Srajana Kaikini (Bangalore) and Ugochukwu-Smooth C. Nzewi (Lagos).

The show’s title is inspired by filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak’s film Arguments, Counter-Arguments & Stories (1974), which centers on a debate between an intellectual and a group of peasant and student rebels.

The biennale’s main venue, opened in 2012, is in a former power plant. The rest of the show will take place in various locations throughout the city, including the Swatch Art Peace Hotel, the Good Choice Bakery, and Shanghai Concert Hall Square, among others.
