Since MoMA workers picketed the museum on June 2, chanting “Modern Art, Ancient Wages” and decrying management’s proposal to cut healthcare benefits, word has been slow to trickle out about the state of negotiations between MoMA and Local 2110.

Evidently, however, things are still rocky as the two parties hurtle towards the June 20 deadline.

This morning, workers confronted museum boss Glenn Lowry with an “open letter,” signed by 250 museum workers—the vast majority of those represented by the union. (A detail of the letter is reproduced above.)

A just-launched Change.org petition also appears to be part of the growing campaign to build public support for the workers, as talks come down to the wire. Speaking for the museum “curators, educators, visitor assistants, salespeople, registrars, librarians, researchers, designers, photographers, editors, conservators, accountants, and more,” the petition concludes:

In a time of great wealth for MoMA, it is indisputable that its staff should be compensated fairly. Please urge The Museum of Modern Art to keep its staff’s health care benefits intact, pay appropriate wages, and to settle a fair contract immediately.

This morning’s open letter itself is relatively easy on Lowry, simply calling on him to act with “insight, imagination, and intelligence.” Other memes circulated on Instagram, however, point to him as a symbol of what is wrong with the museum’s priorities:
