Yesterday, the Alserkal family hosted a festive dinner for hundreds of guests from Dubai and the international art community to celebrate Dubai Art Week 2015 and Alserkal Avenue’s new expansion (see Alserkal Avenue Previews Expansion in Dubai).
The event opened with the unveiling of site-specific works by Mehreen Murtaza and Maria Thereza Alves in The Yard, a new public square at the heart of Alserkal Avenue’s newly-minted extension.
Collectors Alia Al-Senussi, Maryam Eisler, Fatima & Eskander Maleki and Beth Rudin de Woody were among the guests, as well as the Guggenheim Museum’s Richard Armstrong, Delfina Entrecanales and Aaron Cezar of the Delfina Foundation, Laila Binbrek of the UAE Pavillon, The Sharjah Art Foundation’s Judith Greer, The Armory Show’s Noah Horowitz, and the Moving Museum’s dynamic young founders, Aya Mousawi and Simon Sakhai.
Alserkal Avenue is currently home to more than 20 art galleries, creative businesses and organizations. The $14-million expansion is set to double its size.
