For 2018, Berlin’s Gallery Weekend Steers Clear of Art Cologne—Here’s the Full List of Participating Artists and Galleries

This year sees some exciting new additions to one of Berlin's foremost art events, while others are noticeably absent.

Gallery Weekend Berlin is back for its 14th edition from April 27 through 29, and this year it has managed not to clash dates again with the venerable Art Cologne (they are now about a week apart). Their overlap last year caused an outcry in the German art world, as galleries—and collectors—were forced to choose between them. And while they don’t conflict this year, Art Cologne remains a combative market player, taking place over the same weekend as Art Brussels for 2018 (Brussels is only about two hours away from Cologne).

Some 46 Berlin galleries (just down one gallery from last year) are putting their best foot forward, presenting emerging and established artists throughout the city. Certain galleries are noticeably absent, like Supportico Lopez and Arratia Bier, but there are some newcomers as well: Lars Friedrich (showing German artist Peter Wätchler) and Gillmeier Rech (who will be exhibiting Stockholm-based painter Jim Thorrell) are both on the official bill for the first time. Other prominent Berlin galleries, like Aurel Schreiber, are back after a 2017 hiatus, as they opted in favor of attending Art Cologne.
