Musical Chairs Ensues as 207 Galleries Prepare for 2017 Armory Show

There are some high-profile defections and new recruits.

The Armory Show art fair has revealed the 207 exhibitors who will participate in its 2017 fair, taking place on two piers on the Hudson River from March 2–5.

Though the fair holds steady at about the same number of dealers, it has suffered a few high-profile defections; most notably, David Zwirner Gallery (New York and London) will not take part this year. Other major players sitting it out this time around are Goodman Gallery (Johannesburg, Cape Town), Alison Jacques Gallery (London), and Contemporary Fine Arts (Berlin).

The 2017 edition of the fair will be the first for which new director Ben Genocchio has had a full year to prepare, since he was hired 11 months ago. After calling the Art Basel franchise the Marriott of art fairs and comparing looking at art in a tent, as do visitors to the Frieze fairs, to eating chicken from a bucket, he has hardly set the bar low for the first edition bearing his imprint. He’s proposed some key changes, including softening the distinction between modern and contemporary dealers and introducing large-scale works throughout the piers.

Among the newcomers taking up those vacant slots are Jeffrey Deitch (New York), Dominique LĂ©vy (New York, London, Geneva), Pace Gallery (New York, London, Beijing, Hong Kong, Paris, Palo Alto), and White Cube (London, Hong Kong).

The list follows, by section, with galleries, venues, and, in some cases, the artists they are showing.
