Under normal circumstances, the arrival of spring would bring with it a wave of high-profile art-market events: Frieze Week in New York; major spring contemporary-art auctions at Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Phillips; Art Basel in Switzerland. But with the world turned upside down economically and socially, the art business calendar has been turned inside out.
Many fairs have been cancelled outright, while those that have the capacity to pivot to a digital platform are doing so. Others have optimistically rescheduled IRL events for what is now an extremely busy fall. Below, we’ve rounded up all the major art fairs (as well as a handful of important auctions) that we can confirm are still planning to proceed through December 2020. We’ll update the list as additional dates are finalized or changed. In-person events are marked by the flag of the country where they will take place; digital events are accompanied by a computer icon.
