The new media art platform Daata Editions has announced an impressive list of artists commissioned for its “Series Two,” including Tracey Emin, Jake Chapman, Jon Rafman, Larry Achiampong, and Ed Fornieles.
The first release of this second season—which will take place on May 5—will coincide with Frieze Week in New York, and will feature works by Emin, Jacolby Satterwhite, Joachim Koester & Stefan A. Pedersen, Michael Manning, and Rashaad Newsome.
The works by Emin comprise of a recording of her reading a poem she has written alongside images of the written words themselves.
Rashaad Newsome—whose work addresses modern ideas of status utilising hip hop visuals and has been shown at both the Venice and Whitney Biennials—has produced three sound works and three visual works.
The artworks—downloadable from the Daata site as limited editions—will start at $100, with each new registered user getting a free, downloadable Jon Rafman artwork. The commissions will also be on view at the interactive Daata booth at NADA art fair in New York.
The season two of Daata Editions Season has also invited a roster of guest curators—from New Contemporaries, Bitforms Gallery, and Zata Banks’ PoetryFilm—to curate the sound, web, and poetry sections of the site.
Daata Editions will be previewing some works at the upcoming first edition of Independent Brussels, which opens on April 20. The venture, supported by super-collector Anita Zabludowicz, was launched last year and is aimed at contemporary art collectors and a younger, post-internet generation of art lovers.
