American photographer Annie Leibovitz is launching the much-awaited continuation of Women, her successful series of women portraits first launched in 1999, in collaboration with Susan Sontag.

The new iteration of Women will take the form of a touring exhibition. Kicking off in London in January 2016, it will subsequently tour the world, with shows in Tokyo, San Francisco, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico City, Istanbul, Frankfurt, New York, and Zurich.

The first edition of Women was initially published as a book, but was also showcased as an exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

Featuring portraits of important personalities, including Patti Smith, Louise Bourgeois, Scarlett Johansson, Nicole Kidman, Courtney Love, and Yoko Ono, the original edition of Women became one of Leibovitz’s most popular series.

The new series, which will also be entitled Women, will reflect the changes in the roles of women today through portraits that will feature both famous and anonymous women.

The project is a collaboration with the global financial services firm UBS, and the new photographs will join its corporate contemporary art collection, one of the most important in the world, comprising over 35,000 works.

The touring exhibition will be accompanied by an education program, in partnership with cultural organizations around the world, which will explore ways of seeing through photography. Admission to the exhibition and events will be free.
