Gallerist reports that New York’s annual Independent art fair, opening in its fifth year this week (March 6–9), will introduce a fall edition called Independent Projects. Both events will be held at the former Dia Art Foundation building on West 22nd Street in Chelsea. While the spring Independent takes place during Armory Week, the new Independent Projects will coincide with New York’s November auctions in a bid to draw visitors from out of town.
Details are still being finalized, but Independent Projects is expected to draw 30–40 participants, as compared to the 60 on site this week. It will be the only major fair to hold two editions a year in one city.
