In past years the Outsider Art Fair has taken place outside of New York’s two major art fair weeks—in 2013 it happened at the end of January—but now it is joining the cluster of fairs happening concurrently with Frieze New York. The 2014 Outsider Art Fair, the first since dealer Andrew Edlin, whose company Wide Open Arts owns the fair, added a Paris edition in October 2013, will take place at the former Dia Art Foundation building in West Chelsea from May 8–11, with an international roster of 46 participating galleries.

“For anyone who has been paying attention to what’s going on in the art world the Outsider Art Fair is the must-see event,” Edlin said in a statement, echoing the growing level of attention that outsider art has earned in recent years. The exhibitor list for 2014 lends credence to outsider art’s increased visibility, boasting major New York galleries like Marlborough Chelsea, Ricco/Maresca Gallery, and Zieher Smith.
