The K11 Art Foundation has announced an exhibition partnership with Figueres-based Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, which will culminate in the first exhibition of the Spanish surrealist in China since 2001 (see 10 Curious Facts To Celebrate Salvador Dalí’s Birthday).
“Media—Dalí” will open at the K11 Art Mall, Shanghai, on November 5th.
A series of works by contemporary Chinese artists inspired by Dalí will also be displayed, allowing visitors to trace the influence of the Spanish artist in Chinese contemporary art.
Organizers are hoping to replicate the success of last year’s blockbuster exhibition “Master of Impressionism, Claude Monet,” which attracted 350,000 visitors to the museum (see China Gets Monet Show…At The Mall).
“We have been promoting the development of China’s contemporary art scene, and working hard towards this mission,” Adrien Cheng, founder and honorary chairman of K11 Art Foundation, said in statement, adding that he hoped that “the imaginative spirits from Dalí will stimulate young Chinese contemporary artists to experiment and create their own movement.”
“Salvador Dalí Foundation is highly concerned about Dalí’s copyright infringement issues in China,” Juan M. Sevillano, managing director of Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, said in a statement. “We believe this official exhibition will educate and arouse awareness of the importance of intellectual property rights,” he added.
