New York and London’s Skarstedt Gallery topped artnet News’ tally of first day sales at Art Basel’s hometown fair. The gallery unloaded over $40 million worth of art. The monetary deluge was lead by Andy Warhol‘s 1986 silkscreen Self-Portrait (Fright Wig) (1986). The gallery reported an asking price in the mid-$30 million range.

The Warhol was flanked by other major sales, such as Georg Baselitz‘s painting Edvard in front of the Mirror (Munch) (1982), which carried a $3 million price tag. Richard Prince‘s You No Tell – I No Tell (1987), for which the gallery was asking $2.2 million also sold.
