Brat Autumn? Charli XCX Is Hosting an Arty Listening Party at Storm King Art Center
The pop star will be heading to the upstate art institution to play a concert on the eve of the launch of her album re-release.
Charli XCX may have declared that ‘brat summer’ was over September 2, but it looks like fans can strap themselves in for a remixed brat autumn.
On Tuesday, October 8, British musician Charli XCX posted to her Instagram story, announcing “nyyyyyyy i want to play you my new album 🙂 shall we go upstate ?”. Underneath, an “RSVP” link led fans to a brat-green form (hex #8ACE00 – now inextricably tied to Charli XCX’s sixth studio album which was released in June) to apply for tickets to the listening party.
The form on the singer-songwriter’s official website lists the event at Storm King Art Center in New York at 3 p.m. on October 10. Written at the top in mirrored writing is the name of the new album “brat and it’s completely different but also still brat”. As with brat, this text against the green backdrop will be the album cover.
The venue, the Storm King Art Center is around an hour from New York City and has a capacity of 1,000 people for Thursday’s event. The outdoor museum displays more than 90 sculptures by major names including Barbara Hepworth, Sol LeWitt, and Henry Moore, Nam June Paik, Claes Oldenburg, across its 500-acres of land in New York’s Hudson Valley. The venue was founded in 1960. On the center’s website it notes that there will be an early closure on October 10 for a private event.
The album (first announced by XCX on September 12) will include the original setlist of brat, but featuring new arrangements and guest features from singers including Ariana Grande, The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas, Bon Iver, and Troye Sivan with whom Charlie XCX is currently on tour. The pair’s ‘Sweat’ tour dates do not include an event on October 10 (with shows in Dallas on October 9 and Denver on October 11) leaving fans hopeful that Charlie herself may make an appearance at the Storm King event.

The remix album comes after debate from music fans about the fairness of artists rereleasing remixes of songs, presumably to stay in the charts after their first releases have waned in popularity. Fingers were pointed particularly at Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift who continued to release variations on singles after their third album Hit Me Hard and Soft was released in May and their eleventh album The Tortured Poets Department was released in April respectively.
The form to rsvp on Charli XCX’s website for the Storm King Art Center listening party warns that rsvp’ing alone won’t be enough to guarantee Charli XCX fans entry to the event, and that confirmed guests would be receiving an email confirmation. So for the next 24 hours, many fans longing for a revisit to this summer’s most viral album will be sat with crossed fingers awaiting a reply…
