Dasha Zhukova Flips Name of Moscow’s Garage Museum

artnet News is reporting exclusively that Moscow’s Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, founded in 2008 by Dasha Zhukova, is changing its name to the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art as of May 1.
The new moniker reflects the Garage’s commitment to promoting contemporary art in Russia as the museum prepares to move into a new permanent home in Gorky Park. In a press release, Zhukova alluded to the upcoming move (into a building designed by Rem Koolhaas), stressing the importance of adopting “a name that best articulated our mission, both to Moscow and abroad.”

Zhukova, who is also the editor-in-chief of Garage, an art and fashion magazine, has two children with her partner, Russian oligarch and businessman Roman Abramovich.
The Garage has been directed by Anton Belov since 2010; Kate Fowle, formerly the executive director of Independent Curators International, became the institution’s first chief curator last year.
